You know that every work of art has a story behind it. So grab a cup of coffee, pull up a comfortable chair and enjoy the scenery and a good story.
Welcome to my daily painting blog.
I create one new small work every few days. Most are done from life and reflect pleasant childhood memories of Michigan's rural beauty. Have fun!

Eggplant Slices
daily painting #29
3x3" oil on canvas
$85, $5 shipping
I normally do not post on Sunday, but these were just too much fun. I don't really like eggplant (too slippery), but they are too interesting not to paint.

Thank you. I currently use my scanner to get images onto this page. Sometimes the glare from paint that is still a bit wet distorts the color, so think of the color without the glare and you have a better idea of what the original looks like. I've always found that painting is easier than photography.
I really treasure my rural Michigan upbringing. It is a rich source of inspiration to me. To be sure, there were thorns. There were health perils. There were crowded rooms. Yet, despite these unfairytale-like aspects of our rural life there were charming elements. The smell of home-made bread often greeted me as I disembarked the school bus. Home canned goods nourished us year-round. Dad's orchids nourished our senses. Fishing trips to the Huron River or Lake Erie were frequent and pleasant.
Unlike my 10 older siblings, I found it fairly easy to get quiet moments to create. The neighbor's barn loft, the bank of the creek, the roof...all provided vantages from which to contemplate the meaning of life and to sketch the world. Both of my parents and my many siblings have encouraged my artistic pursuits.
To my Creator, I give thanks and honor for my gifts. To my parents and to my brothers and sisters who kept me sane with their humor and grace, I offer my gratitude and love.
